The arrival of Leica's Digital Modul-R should come as exciting news for both the professional photographer and the style-conscious consumer, as it promises to deliver the option of a traditional 35mm camera that can switch between analogue and digital shooting.
The Leica Digital Modul-R is a digital module that clips on to the back of the R-System Leica R8 and R9 Single Lens Reflex (SLR) analogue cameras. So when composition or lighting conditions demand it, you can use both cameras with film, but when you stick the digital module on the R8 or R9, you also get the convenience of digital photos.
The digital module houses a 10 megapixel Charge-Couple Device sensor allowing up to 3,876 by 2,584-pixel images in the RAW, TIFF or JPEG formats. Pictures are stored on a Secure Digital memory card and can be transferred to a computer via Firewire. The battery is a lithium ion rechargeable cell.
